Current Position and Address:  PhD student in Prof Andrey V. Kozlov’s lab at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology, Vienna (Austria).

Summary of education:

I did my first degree in Biomedical Science that gave me the basis to pursue a career in research. My researcher experience started at the Chemistry Department in the University of Aveiro and in the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology at University of Coimbra, as a master student in Clinical Biochemistry.

My master thesis consisted in studying the hypothesis that ER stress may be involved in skin sensitizers-induced dendritic cells (DC) maturation through a ROS-PERK-eIF2α dependent pathway.

After my master degree I got the opportunity to work in Process and Product Applied Thermodynamics (PATh group), a research group at Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO) in the University of Aveiro. Even working in a different research area I consider that my transdisciplinary background is actually beneficial and constructive.

Why are you doing a PhD:

My aspiration for science and research began early, when I was primary school but was through my master project and my following research experience that I have learned that doing research is what I like to do.

Regarding, my background on biomedicine and clinical biochemistry I have been interested in a PhD related with my formation area. Thus, I am convinced that the PhD position in the Marie Skłodowska Curie Innovative Training Network is the perfect opportunity to continue my scientific career.

Still, I feel very interested in being enrolled in science projects and biomedical investigation and working in different research groups.

What are your interests outside the lab?

My big passion is Orienteering, a federated sport that requires navigational skills using a map and range to navigate from point to point in varied and typically unfamiliar terrain, and usually moving at speed.

Moreover, I also like take part in various social associations, as political and/or international non-governmental and not-for-profit organization that affords young people with leadership development and cross-cultural global internship and volunteer exchange experiences.
